Coney Island

This image was assembled for the parachute pavilion competition in Coney Island, held in 2005.

A simple search engine was used as a starting visual brain storming. The picture of Dante and Virgilio tickling the dead (1863) came out because Dante's inferno ride is one of the amusement in Astroland park. The graphic and the subjects of the two images seem to com-penetrate each other. The picture will be included in the Iontas Exhibition 2007 in Sligo Art Gallery from the 21st of June.

FIRENZE - 1998

conversion of abandoned cardboard factory along the Arno:
this is pretty much the stereotype of a design laboratory output at the faculty of architecture in Florence: nevertheless the clock is clicking toward the third millennium and the influence of dutch contemporary architecture is recognizable, there are still some strong renaissance features, specially in the radial and centripetal layout.
Obviously the brief concerned a major art museum with permanent and temporary exhibition, an auditorium, a multifunctional space, retail, cafe'+restaurant, landscape along the river....

Extension in Dublin

BRIEF:
1) existing extension from 1990 to the rear of the house
2) fitting out of a disable toilet3) conservatory
4) link
5) synthesis

GOALS:

1) to reshape the back garden into a geometrical space, in which the existing elements are mirrored on the glazing wall. Above the red beam is visible the back of the house.

2) create a small inner light-well from which the ground floor bedroom receive the southern light.

3) provide an open plan organization where a single bed on wheels is able to travel from the bedroom, to the living space and inside the bathroom.

Paddy's day

Today we raise a glass of warm green beer to a fine fellow, the Irishman who didn't rid the land of snakes, didn't compare the Trinity to the shamrock, and wasn't even Irish.

ISSUE # 000

This is a tragic Blog!

It is so, because it attempts to define what the CITY, which is undefinable by definition.

You can try, but every tentative is limited, speculative, empiric, partisan, incomplete, inaccurate, ambiguous and ultimately not true.

It's like explaining the words art, religion or love for instance.

The city embrace every single human activity, but it's not human...

It grows and mutate like an organism, but its built with inanimate materials...

The dichotomies could continue for long, confirming the impossibility to grasp the city essence.

Therefore,

this blog will discuss about the built environment, with an open-source frame work, where every external input is more than welcome (if i like it).

I will focus above all on the structure of the urban space or the architecture.

Anything connected with buildings or industrial design will be considered with the greatest attention. On the other side any allusion, mention or even the slightest involuntary hint to pure nature, would be not accepted and immediately destroyed.

The grayer are the comments, the better.

Right, from now on, Blogburg, the city-forum, is on.

This is a hot-topic !
